Bottled Water Vs Tap Water?

by Christina M Sears on May 21, 2012

Bottled Water Vs Tap Water? This is actually something I never really gave much thought to until I moved to Lufkin, Texas! The tap water here tastes and smells really bad! Is tap water safe to drink? I really have no idea!
But since it taste and smells bad it really makes it hard to even chance it!!

When I lived in Lancaster, PA, the tap water there really didn’t taste any different then bottled water or filtered water so I never really worried about drinking it! We did have a water filtering system on our refrigerator which I did drink that most of the time but when ever I did reach for just the tap water from the sink, it didn’t really make any difference to me! But coming to Texas and having tap water that tastes and smells really funky kinda worried me A LOT! So I invested in a “Brita water filteration” system! They really don’t cost to much and if you buy the replacement filters in bulk they come to only a few bucks each and its much cheaper then buying bottled water plus you wont be throwing away all those little plastic bottles!
so basically with the Brita water filtration you just simply put the system on your sink and it says it fits mostly all kitchen sinks! Ours is pretty old so im thinking that if it fits this one then it really will fit on any sink!

I have been drinking the water filtered from the Brita water filteration system for almost a month now and I really love it!

For me, bottled water vs tap is an easy choice , if you dont like the taste of your tap water then find a way to filter it! This way will cost less in the long run plus you wont be throwing away all those plastic bottles or jugs! Its a “win/win” for you and the environment!

There is a great documentary, called Tapped, about this issue. I use a water bottle, made by Brita, that filters the water I drink all day.

Having a filtration system is a great idea. Bottled water is not necessarily better. Some bottled water is just filled with tap water. Over priced marketing gimmick.

I’m right up the road from you in waco,tx. i DO NOT drink the water i have a brita pitcher filter device. the water here is gross unless filtered. i won’t even order it from restaurants unless they filter. so from a fellow texan lol don’t do it.
also check out tapped as amanda said, pretty eye opening

I have never been a fan of bottled water because of the waist and the cost.
We tried to use an on tap filter but the water in our area is way too hard so the filter plugged in less than half of its capacity. :-(
I have been using the big refillable bottles and a stand alone cooler/heater. We have been cycling 3-5 gallon bottles for the past 2 years.
